December 19, Victorville, CA — Today the campaign of Chris Bubser, Democrat for Congress in California’s 8th district, announced that the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1167 has endorsed her candidacy, further expanding a strong show of support from the labor movement. The announcement follows endorsements of Bubser by other labor groups, including the AFL-CIO, Teamsters, Brotherhoods of Railroad Signalmen and Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, among others.
"UFCW members in CA-08 need a representative who will put them and their families first, and we believe Chris Bubser will do just that," said UFCW Local 1167 President Joe Duffle. "Our members work hard every day in grocery stores and other retailers across Southern California. I know Chris values their work and will stand in solidarity with them when they demand wages and benefits that allow their families to thrive. We are proud to support Chris and look forward to working with her in 2020 and beyond."
“I want to thank President Duffle and all the hardworking members of UFCW 1167 for their support,” said Bubser. “In the small towns that make up so much of our district, the grocery store often doubles as the town square. It’s only right that the proud men and women who keep them running receive good wages and benefits, and are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Having worked in a department store myself when I was younger, I appreciate the important jobs retail workers do, and I am honored to have their support. I promise to always fight for them and their families in Congress.”
“I also want to congratulate Local 1167 on their recently hard-won new contracts with Albertsons, Ralphs, Vons, and Stater Bros. grocery chains,” added Bubser. “The union was able to secure better wages and benefits for members for years to come, putting on full display the power of union membership.”
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) represents 1.3 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, primarily in grocery and retail stores, pharmacies, manufacturing and healthcare facilities, chemical facilities, cannabis-related businesses, and the meatpacking industry. In California's 8th district, shoppers are likely to find UFCW members working in their local Albertsons, CVS, Food 4 Less, Rite Aid, Stater Bros., or Vons.
The 8th district stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
