December 31, Victorville, CA — Five-term United States Representative and member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, Judy Chu, has endorsed Chris Bubser in her run for California’s 8th Congressional District, announced the Bubser campaign today. Rep. Chu, whose 27th District district borders Bubser’s 8th, chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and was the first Chinese-American woman to be elected to Congress, in 2009.
"I'm glad Chris is running for the 8th, and I'm proud to endorse her," said Rep. Judy Chu. "Chris's commitment to protecting and expanding access to quality affordable healthcare will be essential in the years ahead. I'm also pleased to see another woman step up to represent working families in California. Given the proximity of our districts, I look forward to working closely with Chris in 2020 and beyond."
“Congresswoman Chu exemplifies what it means to be a great representative,” said Bubser. “She takes the time to hear from her constituents, gives thoughtful consideration to each of her votes and sponsorships, and always puts the people of her district first. To have Rep. Chu’s support is truly an honor. I look forward to working with her on an agenda that puts working families at the center of legislation and seeks to uplift our communities with an emphasis on justice, equity, and investments in education and Social Security.”
Congresswoman Chu represents California’s 27th District, which includes most of the San Gabriel Valley and northern portions of the Inland Empire. Chu serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, often cited as the most powerful committee in the chamber, and on the House Small Business Committee. In 2019, Chu sponsored legislation to reduce college debt burden, protect women’s health, and promote mental health care accessibility, among other pressing issues.
Chu joins U.S. Representatives Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Raul Ruiz (CA-36), Ted Lieu (CA-33), Julia Brownley (CA-26), Katie Porter (CA-45), Mike Levin (CA-49), and Gil Cisneros (CA-39) in endorsing Bubser, along with the California Democratic Party, AFL-CIO, and California League of Conservation Voters.
The 8th District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Big Bear, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
