JAY OBERNOLTE LIES ABOUT HIS FAILURE TO FUND VETERANS SERVICES
Assemblyman Campaigns on Helping Vets While Voting Against Their Interests
September 1, Victorville, CA — At a time when California is home to the highest percentage of homeless veterans in the country, Jay Obernolte’s tenure in the California State Assembly has been marked by one vote after another that denies veterans the basic support they need to live with dignity after serving our country. Jay Obernolte has made a loud campaign talking point out of opposing the closure of the Barstow Veterans Home, but his voting record tells a very different story.
“The Barstow Veterans home has been on the brink of closure for the entirety of Obernolte’s tenure in the State Assembly,” said Chris Bubser, Democrat running to fill the district's open seat for Congress. “Thanks in no small part to Obernolte’s repeated votes to cut hundreds of millions in funding for job training programs for disabled veterans, social security, and even for the Barstow Veterans Home.”
“My dad developed technologies for our military and my uncle served in World War Two.” Bubser added, “I know it is not enough to just thank Veterans for their service. It is unacceptable that Obernolte has failed to fund the benefits they have earned.”
