For Immediate Release
December 18, Victorville, CA -- Today the campaign of Chris Bubser, Democrat for Congress in California’s 8th district, announced endorsements from two key railroad unions: the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman (BRS). This comes one day after the campaign announced endorsements from the AFL-CIO and Teamsters.
“It is with great honor that the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen fully endorse Chris Bubser’s campaign for Congress,” said Ryan K. Snow, BLET’s California State Legislative Board Chairman. “We believe that she best represents the interests of working families here and throughout our nation. We have confidence in her convictions to improve lives and protect the jobs of organized labor and their families while working diligently for responsible policies that will rebuild our country’s infrastructure of roads, railroads and bridges.”
“The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman is proud to endorse Chris because we know that as someone who has trained as an engineer, she understands the importance of advocating for ongoing vocational training and apprenticeships to operate the increasingly sophisticated computer technology and electronic circuitry used in today's signal systems,” said Mike Efaw, National Legislative Director for the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. “Chris’s positions on protecting our retirement and expanding our healthcare were a key element of our decision to support her.”
“I am so honored to receive the support of the BRS and BLET,” said Bubser. “The railways and people that power them and keep them safe and efficient hold a special place in our district’s landscape and economy. I am committed to protecting benefits for rail workers and fully funding our rail system as new technologies enhance the safety and productivity of this vital form of transport.”
The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) was founded in 1901 as a trade union representing railroad employees working with the new technology of signaling. BRS represents the men and women who install and maintain signal systems for most of the nation's railroads. The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the Transportation Trades Department.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) is a Division of the Rail Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The BLET is North America's oldest rail labor union. Founded in 1863, BLET merged with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on January 1, 2004.
