Teamsters Joint Council 42 Joins Growing List of Union Support for Bubser
For Immediate Release
December 17, Victorville, CA -- In yet another vote of confidence from labor unions, Chris Bubser has received the endorsement of the Teamsters Joint Council 42. Bubser, of Mammoth Lakes, is running for the CA-08 seat being vacated by Rep. Paul Cook. The support of the Teamsters follows Bubser's endorsement by the AFL-CIO, also announced today.
The Joint Council represents 23 Teamster Union Locals and nearly 250,000 working Teamsters and retirees in California, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan.
“Chris’s staunch opposition to "right to work" laws was a vital component in our decision to endorse her run for Congress,” said Randy Cammack, President of Teamsters Joint Council 42. “She understands that these laws are a driver of income inequality and health insecurity for American workers. We know she will be a strong advocate for all workers and the right to unionize when she represents California’s 8th district.”
“The support of the Teamsters means so much to me,” said Bubser. “We need to start investing in working families again, and stop undermining America’s workers at the expense of massive tax breaks for corporations and special interests. In Congress, I pledge to be an advocate for higher wages, paid family leave, equal pay for equal work, and greater investments in education, vocational training and career development. And I will fight legislatively to ensure that we keep employers held to the highest safety standards.”
Bubser’s GOP opponents Tim Donnelly and Jay Obernolte receive extraordinarily low ratings from labor organizations because they consistently opposed legislation that would benefit workers’ economic security and safety.
Bubser’s pro-labor positions are rapidly gaining the attention and support of a range of labor organizations. In addition to the AFL-CIO and the Teamsters, the campaign has garnered endorsements from trade unions such as LiUNA, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, and the Brotherhoods of Railroad Signalmen and Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, to name a few.
The 8th congressional district stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
