Representatives Raul Ruiz and Katie Porter get behind Chris Bubser
September 24, 2019, Victorville, CA — Just days after Paul Cook announced his retirement from Congress, Chris Bubser garnered endorsements for her run to replace him from Representatives Raul Ruiz (CA-36) and Katie Porter (CA-45).
This support comes well in advance of the end of a second quarter of robust fundraising and with 80% of eligible California Democratic Party delegates committed to endorsing Chris ahead of the party’s pre-endorsement conferences next month.
“I have come to know Chris over the last year, first as a tireless supporter of my campaign and now as a candidate,” said Congresswoman Katie Porter. “Her passion for making sure the people in the 8th get a fair shake from our economy is unwavering and as a woman she will fight for policies that lift up women, children and families across the country. I look forward to throwing my support behind a candidate that I believe will swing another district to the party that will fight for all Americans.”
Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) also endorsed Chris, citing her focus on expanding access to affordable healthcare and her support for improving health services for all Americans, especially seniors and veterans, as an essential factor in his decision. “As an emergency room doctor, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is that we focus on providing more access to affordable health care,” said Representative Ruiz. “Chris has also seen that firsthand as a parent of a child with a pre-existing condition. I look forward to partnering with her in Congress to reduce health care costs.”
“I am honored to have the support of these remarkable public servants,” said Bubser. “They inspire me everyday and confirm that running for Congress is the best way to ensure that the voices of California’s voters are heard and their needs--from healthcare, to jobs, to the protection of the places they live in and love--are met.”
Chris announced last month that she had secured the endorsements of local party leaders who had previously attempted to unseat Cook.
The 8th District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Calimesa, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
