CHRIS BUBSER WINS ENDORSEMENT RECOMMENDATION FROM CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY
Democrats Across CA-08 Unite Behind Bubser’s Run for Congress
For Immediate Release
October 7, 2019,Victorville, CA - Delegates to the California Democratic Party unanimously voted to “pre-endorse” Chris Bubser in her run to represent California’s 8th district in Congress. At the Party’s regional conference in Palmdale on Saturday, delegates from San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono counties voiced their enthusiastic support for Bubser, with all delegates voting to endorse her.
“I am humbled by the outpouring of support our campaign has received from all corners of this vast district,” said Bubser upon confirmation of her pre-endorsement. “This demonstration of unity among Democrats is further proof that we are ready to win in the 8th, and bring real representation to Washington for the people and families of our district, rather than the corporate interests that back our Republican opponents.”
Pre-endorsement is granted to candidates who receive the support of more than 70% of voting delegates from the district. By being “pre-endorsed,” Bubser is assured the formal endorsement of the California Democratic Party, at its convention in Long Beach, November 15-17.
In 2018, no Democrat was able to secure the pre-endorsement of the Party. Registered Nurse Marge Doyle went on to be endorsed at the convention, but the lack of early unity among Democrats was later shown to be detrimental, as Doyle and two other Democrats split the vote in the June primary, leading to two Republicans advancing to the general election.
“Democrats in the 8th have been down this road before, and seen what happens when we don’t stand strong together,” said Charlie Baran, political director for the Bubser campaign. “Chris has been up and down the district with her message of unity and vision of ensuring affordable healthcare, protecting our public lands, and revitalizing our economy with good 21st century jobs, so that everyone has a chance to make a good life here. Chris’s sailing through pre-endorsement is further evidence that her message is resonating with voters and community leaders, and is a clear signal that Democrats are united behind her.”
Support for Bubser has been growing beyond the district as well. Last week U.S. Representative Ted Lieu (CA-33) announced his endorsement of Bubser’s campaign. This follows the news that Representatives Gil Cisneros (CA-39), Katie Hill (CA-25), Katie Porter (CA-45), and Raul Ruiz (CA-36) are supporting Chris’s campaign to represent California’s 8th District, which will be open following the retirement of the current representative, Col. Paul Cook.
The 8th District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Calimesa, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
