CHRIS BUBSER WINS ENDORSEMENT OF REPRESENTATIVE NORMA TORRES
Inland Empire Congresswoman Joins Rep. Pete Aguilar and Eight Other Southern California Representatives to Support Bubser’s Run for the 8th
February 6, Victorville, CA -- The campaign of Chris Bubser, the California Democratic Party-endorsed candidate for California’s 8th Congressional District, announced that she has received the endorsement of Representative Norma Torres (CA-35). The decision to support Bubser’s campaign followed the opening of the San Bernardino County Democratic Battleground Office last weekend where Bubser joined Reps. Torres and Pete Aguilar (CA-31) as keynote speakers addressing a crowd of Democratic activists. The San Bernardino Democratic Party has placed Chris Bubser’s effort to flip the 8th as its top priority ahead of the March 3rd primary. Bubser is running to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Paul Cook, who announced his retirement from Congress after Chris entered the race in 2019. Bubser is the only woman running to fill the open seat among a field of nine candidates.
"We need more passionate advocates for working families like Chris in Congress," said Rep. Torres, the only Central American member of Congress. "I am proud to join many of my fellow Southern California Democratic Representatives in endorsing Chris Bubser as she seeks to flip the 8th district. Chris has already shown that she has the vision, integrity, and conviction to run a smart campaign based on American values and respect for all people. I know she'll bring those traits, as well as a singular commitment to honorably serving the people of the 8th district, and I welcome her to join the largest women’s caucus in U.S. history when she joins us in Congress in 2021."
“I am so honored to receive the support of Representative Torres,” said Chris Bubser. “She has been a leader in Congress, and an energetic champion of expanding access to affordable healthcare, which is critical for all Americans. I look forward to joining her in the fight to build on the benefits the Affordable Care Act has been delivering to the families in our districts.”
Rep. Torres, who is in her third term in Congress, has committed to mobilizing volunteers to the Bubser campaign as the primary election approaches.
In addition to Torres and Aguilar, Bubser’s run for Congress has been endorsed by Reps. Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Judy Chu (CA-27), Raul Ruiz (CA-36), Ted Lieu (CA-33), Julia Brownley (CA-26), Mike Levin (CA-49), Katie Porter (CA-45), and Gil Cisneros (CA-39). Bubser also has the endorsement of the California Democratic Party, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s BOLD PAC, the California Federation of Teachers, and a host of other labor unions and environmental groups, among others.
The 8th Congressional District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
