December 12, Victorville, CA - Today the campaign of Chris Bubser, the California Democratic Party-endorsed candidate for Congress in California’s 8th District, announced that she has been endorsed by California State Senator Connie Leyva. Leyva is serving her second term in the Senate, representing the 20th District in the Inland Empire. Bubser and Leyva’s respective districts share a border along I-215 in southwestern San Bernardino County.
“Endorsing Chris to represent California’s 8th was an easy decision," said Senator Leyva. “As a former labor leader, it’s essential that any candidate I support be a champion of unions and working Americans. Chris is that candidate. She also aligns with me on other critical issues like protecting the health and safety of women and fighting for environmental justice. I look forward to her partnership in addressing the vital needs of our region.”
“I am so honored to receive the support of Senator Leyva, with whom I share many common goals and values,” said Chris Bubser. “She is a champion for the people of the Inland Empire and a dedicated fighter for workers rights and the rights of women. She is a shining example of what it truly means to represent the best interests of the voters in her district.”
Bubser, who just yesterday was endorsed by the California Labor Federation, is the only woman running to represent CA-08. Her opponents include five GOP candidates, including the founder of the California Minutemen, Tim Donnelly. Bubser has won endorsements from a number of unions representing workers in the Inland Empire, High Desert, and Eastern Sierra, a significant factor in Leyva’s decision to back her campaign. Bubser is the only candidate running in the 8th who has prioritized reaching out to workers and their unions. Her growing list of labor endorsements--singular in her race--is proof of her commitment to fighting for workers and their families.
“From the day she announced her campaign, Chris has made working with unions a top priority,” said Bubser’s political director Charlie Baran. “Chris knows that unions offer a critical path to the middle-class for millions of Americans, and that without them, workers in all industries are subjected to lower wages, fewer benefits, and less job security. Unfortunately, not everyone running in the 8th feels this way. For example, Assemblymember Obernolte hasn’t even bothered to reach out to local labor unions, yet he finds plenty of time to fly his private jet around the district paying personal visits to his fat cat corporate donors.”
Senator Leyva’s 20th district includes the communities of Bloomington, Chino, Colton, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Montclair, Muscoy, Ontario, Pomona, Rialto and San Bernardino.
The 8th congressional district stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
