Chris Bubser, Democratic Candidate for CA-08, Advances to The General Election
March 4, Victorville, CA - Today, Chris Bubser, Democratic candidate for Congress in California’s 8th district issued the following statement regarding the status of 2020 Primary Election Results:
“With 100% percent of precincts reporting, this campaign will be moving forward to the general election. I want to thank everyone who turned out at the polls over the last 10 days and who voted by mail. Each vote is important and consequential and we expect our position will only improve as mail ballots continue to be counted. It is clear that our message of changing Washington by standing up to special interests and solving problems is resonating, and that this district is ready for new leadership.”
“As a mother of a child with epilepsy,” She continued, “I know firsthand how devastating the policies of partisan politicians like Jay Obernolte can be to the wellness of our children. This is personal to me and to more than 300,000 people living with pre-existing conditions in this district. Republicans in Congress have made their intent to repeal the Affordable Care Act crystal clear. Jay Obernolte will put our families at risk and he is a danger to our health.”
“We are encouraged by the outcome of the primary,” notes Campaign Manager and longtime resident of the 8th District, Lindsay Barnes, “But we are not surprised. The voter registration gap between Republicans and Democrats that was once 11 percent in 2012 is now just 3 percent - this is clear evidence that this is a changed district. Chris’ Republican opponent represents all that is wrong with Washington - a politician who is beholden to corporate special interests and routinely puts his campaign supporters ahead of us.”
“Jay Obernolte is a corporate sellout. He’s awash in oil money as corporations continue to threaten the national parks of the 8th district,” she continued. “And any politician who is willing to accept campaign contributions from tobacco companies, who market to children, is not healthy for this district. Chris Bubser is refusing corporate money. She’s a candidate for the people, not special interests.”
Post-election tallies of provisional ballots have tilted in favor of Democrats throughout California. Late ballots historically have tended to favor Democratic candidates, who cast their mail ballots closer to the election. By all indications, Bubser’s trend will only solidify and improve as the week goes on.
The 8th Congressional District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
