January 7, Victorville, CA — With labor endorsements continuing to accumulate, the campaign of Democrat Chris Bubser announced that two additional unions have awarded their support to her campaign for Congress. Both the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 12 and Laborer’s International Union of North American (LIUNA) Local 783 have endorsed Bubser. To date, 15 distinct labor organizations have chosen Chris over her nine opponents.
"The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 is proud to endorse Chris Bubser for Congress," said Matthew Gaines, Political Director for IUOE Local 12. "Chris's commitment to our core issues: infrastructure investment, prevailing wages, worker training and safety, and robust benefits for our members is without question. I know she will be a strong ally in Congress and an advocate for our members and their families."
"LIUNA knows a champion of workers when we see one, and Chris Bubser certainly is," said LIUNA Local 783 Business Manager, Alex Artiaga. "Chris knows that one of the most pressing issues faced by our nation is the poor condition of too many of our roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure, and that we must make bold investments to maintain safety and competitiveness in the global economy. We believe Chris will be a representative who will not only advocate for smart investments in infrastructure and fair wages, but also a defender of the right to unionize and of workers everywhere."
“I am proud that the IUOE and LIUNA have demonstrated their confidence in my candidacy and my promise to advocate for working families,” said Bubser. “Our infrastructure was once the envy of the world and it’s imperative that we modernize our nation’s infrastructure. A 21st century economy needs a 21st century infrastructure system - it’s good for our country, our economy, and our people.”
Both LIUNA and IUOE have memberships of half a million and primarily represent workers in construction trades. Members of the two unions frequently work alongside each other on public and private projects, from office towers and sports arenas to roads and bridges and more.
Bubser’s other labor endorsements include: AFL-CIO, California Labor Federation, Inland Empire Labor Council, Kern-Inyo-Mono Labor Council, Teamsters Joint Council 42, IBEW Local 47, IUPAT District Council 36, UFCW Local 1167, Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, California Conference of Machinists, and the American Postal Workers Union Local 95.
The 8th District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
