Carpenters Endorse Chris Bubser for Congress

Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters represents 50,000 union carpenters in six states

April 23, Victorville, CA -- The campaign of Chris Bubser announced today that the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters (SRCC) endorsed her run for Congress in California’s 8th Congressional District. The SRCC is the largest affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC). Bubser has emerged as the candidate of choice for the building trades in the race for the district’s open seat.

“Our union carpenters in Southern California enthusiastically support Chris Bubser for Congress in CA-08,” said Dan Langford, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “When it comes to the needs of workers and their families, her priorities align with our members'. We know she will fight to protect and expand access to affordable healthcare and help revitalize our economy on the other side of the current public health crisis, so that we will be better prepared in the future. Key to this will be investing in much-needed infrastructure projects that will create good jobs for our members and strengthen all aspects of our economy.”

“I am so honored to gain the support of the Carpenters,” said Bubser. “There is nothing more important to me than making sure our workers and their families are treated with dignity and respect. The value of unions is on full display right now, as essential construction workers on union projects are reporting high levels of social distancing practices and access to personal protection equipment, while non-union work sites are hit and miss at best. I’ll fight to make sure our workers and their families are protected from health concerns like Coronavirus, as well as the persistent economic inequality so many faced long before the pandemic.”

Bubser added, “From the beginning my campaign has been about giving working families a boost through better paying jobs and the right to organize. We know the failed ‘trickle-down’ tactics my opponent espouses will never produce real gains for working families, just payouts for stock-holders.”

In addition to the Carpenters, the other building trade organizations that have come out in support for Bubser include:

Riverside & San Bernardino Building Trades Council

Kern-Inyo-Mono Building Trades Council

International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Joint Council 42

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 47

International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 36

United Association -- Union of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and Service Techs, Local 460

Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 783

Sheet Metal Workers (SMART), Local 105

International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 12

The 8th Congressional District stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
