California State Controller Betty Yee Endorses Chris Bubser for Congress, To Visit Victorville
California’s Chief Financial Officer Will Meet with Bubser Supporters on
Saturday February 15th at Her Victorville Campaign Headquarters
For Immediate Release
February 7, Victorville, CA - The campaign of Chris Bubser, Democrat running for Congress in California’s 8th District, announced today that California State Controller Betty Yee has endorsed her bid to flip the district for Democrats. Yee, who joins an expansive coalition of federal, state, local, and labor leaders backing Bubser, is set to speak at her Victorville campaign headquarters on Saturday February 15th at 10:00am. Yee will be part of kicking off a day of canvassing in the High Desert by the California Young Democrats and other volunteers.
Ms. Yee is California’s chief fiscal officer and an advocate for aggressive action on affordable housing, increased access to affordable healthcare, and quality public education.
"I am pleased to support Chris Bubser for the 8th Congressional District. Chris will be a champion for underserved communities and represent the needs of working families to strengthen California's economy, so it may be one of shared prosperity,” said Controller Betty Yee.
“Controller Yee’s endorsement means so much to me and to the hundreds of voter-volunteers who have stepped up to help our campaign to bring real representation back to the 8th,” said Bubser. “That she has set aside time in her busy schedule to come to Victorville to speak with us is humbling, to say the least. If you’ve ever seen Betty speak, you know this won’t be something to miss. I am proud that already our campaign is bringing more attention to the High Desert and to the incredible people who live here.”
Chris Bubser has been making news since she announced her candidacy for Congress in April 2019. She outraised incumbent Paul Cook in her first quarter, motivating him to announce his retirement from Congress. The only woman in the race, Chris has cultivated a deep bench of committed volunteers and donors across the vast 8th district and beyond.
“Young people are looking for leaders who are committed to aggressive action on climate change, who take the time to listen to our concerns, and who aren’t beholden to corporations and their lobbyists,” said Alexandra Beltran, Inland Empire Regional Director for the California Young Democrats. “Chris Bubser checks all those boxes and more. That’s why our members are mobilizing to get out the vote for Chris in the High Desert. We were excited to pitch in before Controller Yee announced her plans to meet with us. Now we are even more energized and ready to help elect a representative in the 8th district that will take a stand for the High Desert community. There is just too much at stake for young people to accept a back seat in 2020.”
Bubser has been endorsed by the San Bernardino County Young Democrats, the California Young Democrats, the San Bernardino County Democratic Central Committee, and the California Democratic Party.
Controller Yee will be speaking with Bubser supporters at 10:00am on Saturday February 15th, at her campaign headquarters in Victorville. Community members and all interested people are encouraged to come and meet with Ms. Yee, and to join #TeamBubser volunteers afterwards to canvass voters around the Victor Valley.
Bubser added: “Everyday I am awed by how many people have responded with enthusiasm to our message. It shouldn’t be exceptional that I have committed to work only for the people of the 8th district, and not for any corporate or special interest groups, but unfortunately it is. That said, it’s clear we’ve struck a chord with voters here, and I can’t wait to get to work on their behalf.”
