CA-08 RACE DECLARED “ONE TO WATCH” BY TOP POLITICAL HANDICAPPER INSIDE ELECTIONS
Bubser’s Odds Increase as She Continues to Outraise Opponent
August 12th, Victorville, CA- Chris Bubser’s campaign is gaining momentum on multiple fronts as the 2020 elections approach. Inside Elections has identified CA-08, where Democrat Chris Bubser has outraised her opponent three quarters in a row, as “One to Watch” for a Democratic upset or surprise in November. Inside Elections provides nonpartisan analysis of campaigns for Senate, House, governor and presidential races and does not endorse candidates.
“People in this district want a Representative with demonstrated experience in healthcare and business to guide them through these challenging times,” said campaign manager Lindsay Barnes. “Jay Obernolte is just another career politician who makes decisions based on partisan politics instead of facts. That’s why people are stepping up to support Chris Bubser.”
As the President loses ground around the country, prognosticators like Inside Elections have begun to take a closer look at strong candidates in races like Bubser’s. Chris Bubser has consistently outraised her competitor, Assemblyman Jay Obernolte, who has long been one of the loudest anti-vaccination voices in Sacramento. The Republican incumbent, Paul Cook, announced his retirement in September of 2019, making this an open seat.
Weak fundraising by Obernolte seems to signal a lack of confidence and enthusiasm for his campaign, particularly during the current pandemic and economic crisis. While Obernolte has received fewer than 100 donations from residents of CA-08, Bubser is closing in on a resounding 2,000 in-district contributions.
“We owe it to the families of our district to do all we can to fight the pandemic and restore economic security and opportunity,” said Chris Bubser. “We cannot expect Obernolte, a vocal anti-vaxxer to do what’s in the best interests of regular people. As a State Assemblyman he has voted consistently to cut Medicare, Social Security and to deny hundreds of thousands healthcare and paid sick leave. He's a typical partisan politician who will just get worse if he goes to DC."
