Bubser Wins Endorsement from The Sheet, The Only Independently-Owned Newspaper in CA 8th District
July 20th, Victorville, CA -- The Sheet, a weekly newspaper headquartered in Mammoth Lakes, CA, has endorsed Democrat Chris Bubser for Congress. This is the first endorsement of any political candidate in the entirety of the paper’s 17-year history. With this endorsement, The Sheet becomes the first publication to weigh in on the race to represent California’s 8th Congressional District.
“I am honored that The Sheet has, in breaking with its tradition of political neutrality, decided to publish a vote of confidence in me and my campaign,” said Bubser. “We are living through highly unusual circumstances. I think we will continue to see local leaders and institutions like The Sheet think critically about who has the science and business experience to lead us through this recovery.”
Bubser added, “My family and I have been reading The Sheet for 15 years. The Sheet is a staple in our community, so this is very meaningful.”
The publisher’s endorsement stated:
When she (Chris) spoke at a Mammoth Lakes Lions Club luncheon about a month ago, I was greatly impressed by her presence, her message, her empathy, her background (engineering). She’s clearly made the effort, done the homework, actually heard people, and incorporated what she’s heard from the citizens of the district into her message.
And what was really powerful to me - she talked at length about the importance of making healthcare available and affordable - and didn’t once mention that her mother had recently died of Covid-19 in a Pennsylvania nursing home. Your typical politician would’ve said that right off the bat, very first thing to garner sympathy. It didn’t even come up.
She’s a Mammoth resident, she’s approachable, she knows the area and our local issues and she’s keen on serving others.
The Sheet is an independently owned and operated weekly newspaper covering news from Lone Pine to Coleville along the Highway 395 corridor.
