December 17, Victorville, CA - The campaign of Chris Bubser announced today that she has been endorsed by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). Support for her campaign was decided by 600 delegates at the pre-primary convention held by the California Labor Federation on December 11th. This endorsement establishes Bubser as the official choice of the in-district Inland Empire and Kern-Inyo-Mono Labor Councils, the state level California Labor Federation, and the national AFL-CIO.
The AFL-CIO is the largest federation of unions in the United States. It is made up of 55 national and international labor unions representing more than 12 million active and retired workers.
"Chris's commitment to working families is exactly what we need more of in Washington," said California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski. "As billionaires and their lobbyists continue to erode the right of American workers to form and join unions to better their lives, the labor movement counts on champions like Chris to represent the interests of working people in Congress. I'm confident that Chris will always put working families first, and the California Labor Federation is proud to support her candidacy for California's 8th district."
“I am extremely honored to receive the endorsement of the AFL-CIO and the CLF,” said Bubser. “I come from a family of teachers and coal miners with a long history of union membership, and I will passionately defend the rights of workers to organize. The people of the 8th deserve a representative who isn’t beholden to corporate donors. Mr. Pulaski is right: I will always put working families before big corporations.”
Top Republican contenders in the 8th, Jay Obernolte and Tim Donnelly, have lifetime ratings from the CLF of 10% and 3% respectively for their voting records in the California Assembly. Bubser, who has made uplifting working families and outreach to labor cornerstones of her campaign, is finding support for candidacy from a wide array of labor unions and workers’ rights groups. She has emerged as the clear choice to represent working families in California’s 8th congressional district.
The 8th congressional district stretches along much of California’s eastern border, and includes parts of San Bernardino County, and all of Inyo and Mono counties. The district includes, among others, the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Bishop, Hesperia, Highland, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes, Needles, Trona, Twentynine Palms, Victorville, Yucaipa, and Yucca Valley, and Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.
